What are some of the health and safety concerns with using Sprint's Standard Film Developer? What should you do if you get chemistry on your eyes or skin or ingest the chemistry?

Some of the concerns that come along with using the chemistry are skin irritation, inhalation, eye contact/irritation and ingestion. It may be absorbed through the skin, which might cause sensitization. Breathing the chemical in may cause irritation in the throat, nose, respiratory tract etc…which may cause dizziness, nausea, and headaches. If you get chemistry on your skin, you should wash with soap and water. If the skin is still irritated after rinsing/washing, you should seek further medical attention. If chemistry gets in your eye, rinse with water and remove contacts. If you have ingested the chemistry, drink 3-4 glasses of water but do not try to make yourself puke.

· Where are the material safety data sheets located in our darkroom?

They are located in the little room you go through before entering the dark room.

· Is it ok for me to post your name on the class blog if I post your answers to these questions?

Yes, it’s fine with me.

Also! I've found this site with helpful information about cleanliness in the darkroom. We've gone over safety issues and whatnot, but I thought this was interesting.

  1. good find!

"Keep Chemicals locked away from small children, they will drink anything! "

Another good reason to keep kids out of the darkroom.

I have a small darkroom set up in my basement and I keep the chemicals closed up in a locker that my four year old and our cats can't open. Scary to think of the consequences.
