What are some of the health and safety concerns with using Sprint's Standard Film Developer? What should you do if you get chemicals on your eyes or skin or ingest the chemicals?

-Inhalation of vapors or mist can irritate the mucous membranes of the nose, throat, and respiratory tract, possibly causing headache, light-headedness, dizziness, nausea, and liver injury. If irritation develops or breathing become difficult then move to fresh air and seek medical attention.
-Ingestion of chemicals can cause kidney damage, can be toxic to the embryo, cause teratogenic effects, and life-threatening asthma. Drink 3-4 glasses of water without inducing vomiting and get medical attention.
-Skin contact can cause mild irritation and sensitization. If it absorbs through the skin it can cause the effects of inhalation and ingestion. Wash skin with water and soap for several minutes. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
-Eye contact may cause mild irritation. Rinse eyes with water for several minutes and remove contact lenses. Seek medical attention of irritation develops.

-Skin contact may cause burns, depigmentation, and sensitization. Wash skin with water and soap for 15 minutes and remove any contaminated clothing and shoes washing before reuse. Get immediate medical attention.
-Inhalation of vapors or mist may irritate the mucous membranes of the nose, throat, and respiratory tract. This can cause headache, light-headedness, dizziness, and nausea. Move to fresh air. If not breathing, start mouth-to-mouth respiration and get immediate medical attention. If having trouble breathing, transport to medical care and give supplemental oxygen.
-Eye contact causes eye burns. Immediately rinse eyes with large amounts of water for 15 minutes and remove contact lenses. Get immediate medical attention.
-Swallowing can cause gastrointestinal pain, cramps, nausea, vomiting, central nervous system depression, kidney or liver damage, and life-threatening asthma. Drink 3-4 glasses of water but DON'T induce vomiting. Get medical attention.

-Skin contact may cause mild skin irritation. Wash skin with plenty of water and soap for several minutes and seek medical attention if irritation develops.
-Eye contact cause eye irritation. Immediately rinse eyes with water and remove contact lenses. Continue flushing eyes with water for 15 minutes and get medical attention immediately.
-Inhalation may cause respiratory tract irritation: soreness in throat, nose, and respiratory tract. Breathing acetic acid vapors may cause asthma symptoms. Move to fresh air and give artificial respiration if not breathing. Get medical attention immediately if having trouble breathing or not breathing.
-Ingestion can be harmful. Treat same as ingestion of Quick Silver Print Developer.

-Prolonged skin contact can cause irritation, redness, cracking, dermatitis, and sensitization. Treat same as for Block Stop Bath.
-Inhalation of vapors may irritate respiratory tract and breathing acetic acid can cause asthma. Treat same as for Block Stop Bath.
-Contact with eyes my irritate and burn eyes. Remove contacts and flush with water for several minutes. Seek medical attention if irritation develops and persists.
-Ingestion may irritate the digestive tract and cause life-threatening asthma. Treat same as for Block Stop Bath.

-Skin contact can cause mild irritation and sensitization and absorption through skin can cause symptoms like those for the ingestion of ethylene glycol. Treat same as for Block Stop Bath.
-Breathing vapors can irritate the mucous membranes of the nose, throat, and respiratory tract, causing headache, light-headedness, dizziness, and nausea. Treat same as for Block Stop Bath.
-Eye contact can cause mild irritation. Treat same as for Record Speed Fixer.
-Ingestion can cause kidney damage and may be toxic to the embryo or cause teratogenic effects and life-threatening asthma. Treat same as for Block Stop Bath.

Where are the material safety data sheets located in our darkroom?
-There are some in the room outside our darkroom in a holder on the wall. They are in a big red binder. They are also located under content on D2L.

I found these two pictures by Ansel Adams and thought it was interesting how similar they were. They both have a lot of repeating and overlapping curves. This ties into our discussion of repeating shapes in class.

  1. Hey - repeated shapes - good eye and I appreciate you bringing the in-class discussion into the blog post. I think Ansel Adams is a great place for beginning photographers to start looking - I know he has been influential a lot of photographers over the years. HIs very best work is stunningly well crafted. If you ever have a chance to see a print in person, jump on it.
