Platinum Printing

Platinum Printing

Platinum printing is basically used to make a large range of tones of an image, from using chemicals. It is also known as Platinotypes.
Ferdinand Gehlen was the first to discovery this process. He explored the effects and actions of light rays on platinum.
In the mid to late 19th and through the 20th century platinum prints were very popular. During WWI and WWII Platinum's price soared. Therefor platinum printing faded. It came back in the 1970's when a few specialists began using traditional methods.

Here is a video I thought was interesting.

  1. The video is a great overview of how different the 19th century processes are from the materials we are using. Nice find.
