Web Work #5: Straight Photography

Karl Blossfeldt
Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) was a German instructoe of sculpture who used is wonderful photographs of plants to educate his students about design elements in nature. Karl Blossfeldt was a self-taught photographer and dedicated himself to the study of nature and took pictures of nothing but flowers, buds and seed capsules for thirty five years.

It was very interesting to learn that his photos were taken with a homemade camera that could magnify the subject up to thirty times its actual size. This is why his photos let you see the extrodinary details in the plant.

This is by far one of my most favorite photographer so far check out some more of his amazing work he has done...

  1. I love these - i think most of us take for granted the beauty of nature - especially in regards to "small" living things. These process is truely wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
