Web Work 7- Ralph Eugene Meatyard

Ralph Eugene Meatyard

I don't know what it is about this guy and his photographs but they are all so interesting and grab my attention. if there is any one photographer that we studied I would say this guy captures my attention a great deal higher then anyone else's, as disturbing as that may be.
So Ralph was an American photographer from Normal, Illinois. After he got married he move to Lexington, Kentucky to continue his trade as an optician. The company he worked for also sold photographic equipment. He bought his first camera in 1950 and met Van Deren Coke who is an early influence behind alot of his work.
Meatyard died in 1972 a week away from his 47th birthday. Right about the same time came the height of the "photo boom" growth and ferment in photography.
When he was alive his work was shown and collected by major museums, and published in magazines.
Although his photos didn't seem to show it he was a optician, and happily married with three children. He even coached a boys baseball team.
Throughout his photographer career, he continued to work as a optometrist at Eyeglasses of Kentucky. He was know to others as a devoted family man who somehow found time on the weekends to photograph.
